The Vickers Wellington was a long range medium bomber designed by by the RAF during the 1930's. In service at the beginning of WWII the Wellington shared bombing duties alongside the Whitley & Hampdon, but suffered high losses during daylight raids without the protection of fighter escort. Moving to a night bombing role saw the effectiveness of the Wellington improve with fewer losses.

The aircraft was built of fabric covered geodetic lattice structure developed by Barns Wallis for airships & the airframe quickly gained a reputation of being able to withstand impressive amounts of enemy fire & punishment.

Being withdrawn from front line roles in 1943 the Wellington had the distinction of being the only RAF bomber to be in continuous construction throughout the Second World War.
