The Spitfire Mk VIII was an adaptation of the Mk VII without the pressurised cabin & was intended to become the main production model of the Spitfire. Some early models were fitted with the extended wingtips but most had the standard version fitted.

Supermarines Chief Test pilot Jeffery Quill was quoted as saying the Mk VIII was his favourite mark of Spitfire to fly.
This variant of the aircraft served almost exclusively overseas in the Mediterranean, the South West Pacific & South East Asia.
