HMS Agamemnon was launched in 1906 along with her sister ship HMS Lord Nelson & was the last of the pre Dreadnought battleships to be produced by the Royal Navy. In this same year HMS Dreadnought was launched & so advanced was her design that a whole class of warship was named after her, this already left the Agamemnon as an obsolete design.
During WWI HMS Agamemnon was pressed into service in the Channel fleet. She would go on to cover the safe transport of the British Expeditionary Force to France as well as guarding the English coast against possible German invasion. She would later go on to take part in the failed Gallipoli landings providing covering fire by shelling Ottoman positions, sustaining damage in the process.
After the Dardanelles Campaign Agamemnon would be transferred to the Eastern Mediterranean Squadron where she would shoot down a destroy a German Zeppelin Airship. She was eventually sold for scrap in 1927.
The ships profile was very different to other British battleships with an almost French feel to her design. Her armament consisted of 4 x 12" main battery, 10 x 9.2" secondary gun turrets, 24 x 21-pounder cannon & torpedo tubes.
Her crew totalled over eight hundred & her top speed was 19 knots.
