HMS King George V was the lead ship of five King George V class Battleships & served with the Royal Navy during WWII. Designed within the 35,000 ton limitations of the Washington Treaty, the KGV as she was often referred to, was laid down in 1937 & commissioned in 1940 & would go on to serve in the Atlantic, Mediterranean & Pacific.
The KGV was made flagship of the British Home Fleet on 1st April 1941 & in May that year she would, along with fellow British Battleship HMS Rodney, be involved in the hunt for the German Battleship Bismarck, their combined firepower inflicting heavy damage on the enemy vessel, contributing to her sinking.
She took part in Operation Husky, bombarding the island of Levanzo & the port of Trapani during the Allied landings in Sicily. Later she would escort part of the surrendered Italian Fleet to Malta & in 1945 would transfer to the Pacific to take part in operations against the Japanese.
