The Royal Navy's Type 45 Destroyer (also known as the D or Daring class) is an air defence Destroyer that will replace its Type 42 Destroyers (Sheffield class). HMS Daring is the first ship of this class & was launched on 1st February 2006 & commissioned on 23rd July 2009.
In their anti-aircraft & anti-missile warfare role, the Daring class are built around the PAAMS (Sea Viper) air-defence system & utilises the SAMPSON AESA & S1850M long range radars. These powerful radar systems allow the Daring class to simultaneously track, engage & destroy more targets than five older Type 42 Destroyers combined.
HMS Daring & her class are regarded as the Royal Navy's most capable Destroyers ever, as well as the worlds best air-defence ships.
