HMS Zulu was a Tribal Class Destroyer serving with the Royal Navy & was built in Glasgow, being launched on September 23rd 1937. She was launched with boilers & funnels in place giving her a reputation as a lucky ship. Just after she was completed, HMS Zulu moved to the Mediterranean & was based at Malta.

When she returned home in 1941 she took part in the hunt for German Battleship Bismarck. Later in the same year Zulu sailed to Falmouth England to begin her refit. During this time her aft funnel was cut down & her mainmast was fitted with high frequency direction finding outfit. Two single 2 pounder guns were fitted to the bridge wings, Radar was installed & her depth charge throwers were relocated.

After the refit was finished in July she moved back to the Mediterranean, where she performed strike attacks against Italian convoys & later took part in the attack against the Italian base at Tobruk. At this time in September 14th 1942 Zulu would suffer damage from Italian coastal batteries from the Tobruk coast. Just a few hours after this she was bombed by Italian aircraft, the bomb exploding in her boiler room, this rendered the ship immobile.

HMS Croome took off most of her crew, & HMS Hursley took her in tow. However the British Destroyer was sinking & just 100 miles from Alexandria she was again bombed by enemy aircraft & suddenly rolled to starboard & sank.
