HMS Huron was a Tribal class Destroyer that served with distinction for the Royal Canadian Navy during WWII.

The Tribal class were fast, powerful Destroyers designed with greater emphasis on guns over torpedoes. Armament consisted of eight 4.7 Quick Firing Mk.XII guns in four twin mounts, quadruple Mk.VII "pom pom" & quadruple Vickers .50-inch machine guns as well as a quadruple bank of torpedo tubes.

As some of the Royal Navy's most powerful escort ships they were well liked by their crews were regarded as handsome ships, with their clipper bow that provided excellent seakeeping & raked twin funnels.

HMS Huron was commissioned in July 1943 & went on to take part in Operation Holder & escorting convoys to & from Russia that same year.

In February 1944 she joined the 10th flotilla for pre-invasion duties & spent the next seven months in the Channel. In April that year HMS Huron would be involved in action against German Elbing class Destroyers in the English Channel, after which she had an accidental collision with HMS Ashanti resulting in her having to return to Plymouth for repairs. These repairs were completed just in time for the D-Day operations.

During February & March 1945 she was assigned escort duties in the Western Approaches. In April she had escorted her last convoys to Russia & after being involved with the liberation of Scandinavia she returned to Halifax were she was placed in reserve.
